A Memorable Diwali Celebration at Maryville Care Home

Our recent Diwali workshop at Maryville Care Home was a heartwarming experience that we’ll always cherish. Diverse Litle Colours team were Invited to create a special Diwali celebration for the residents and we were thrilled to bring this festive joy to them. It was truly an honour to make this occasion memorable for everyone.

We were welcomed with such warmth and kindness by both the residents and the dedicated staff. Upon arriving, we gifted decorative diyas (traditional oil lamps) to the staff and residents who were so grateful We also transformed the care home's centre table into a colourful display, draping it with vibrant dupattas (scarves) and arranging the diyas to set a festive tone.

The workshop kicked off with music and gentle exercises, mixing English tunes with popular Bollywood songs. The residents loved every minute, enthusiastically participating! Their energy and excitement were infectious, making the atmosphere lively and joyous.

Afterwards, many residents were curious to know more about Diwali. We shared the story behind the festival, explaining its themes of good triumphing over evil and the ways it is celebrated worldwide – with dancing, music, food, and spectacular fireworks displays. The residents were delighted to feel part of such a beautiful cultural celebration.

To cap off the day, we gathered for a group photo with the staff, proudly displaying the lottery funding flags. This funding has been instrumental in helping us bring these moments of joy through music, movement, and culture to care homes. The residents and staff were thrilled and expressed how much they looked forward to more celebrations with us in the future.

The care home manager suggested a wonderful idea for our next visit: an intergenerational

celebration, inviting local schoolchildren to join the festivities. We wholeheartedly agreed! With many families no longer living as extended units, this event could give children a valuable chance to connect with the elderly – and, in turn, bring immense joy to the resdients.

Reflecting on this Diwali celebration, we feel immense gratitude for the support from lottery funding and our lovely supporters, which made it all possible. This Diwali was truly special, not just for the residents and staff but for us as well. We can’t wait to return to Maryville Care Home and create more beautiful memories together!
