Community Led Craft workshop for Mental Health and wellbeing

This Diwali, our community centre brought people of all ages together for an intergenerational project using diya candles as a focal point. In the spirit of the Festival of Lights, participants handcrafted decorative candles from clay to adorn their homes.

The workshop began with an interactive discussion about mindfulness, well-being, and the significance of light overcoming darkness. Then our volunteer instructors demonstrated how to use art as a medium for expression. Working side-by-side at tables, young and old community members collaborated to create unique Diya designs.

Seeing different generations handcrafting to celebrate Diwali was heartwarming. The event fostered a connection between the community, eager to pass on cultural knowledge, and youth, excited to learn. Friendships formed over shared creativity.

Each participant left with meaningful memories. The candles and diyas will serve as reminders of our community's ability to shine together when united in a spirit of joy and service.
