Serving the community during Dementia Action Week

As the warm spring days of May approach, we are glad to be part of an important event: dementia week 2024. From May 13th to 19th, organisations across the UK united to raise awareness about a critical issue impacting millions: the challenges of those living with dementia.

We ran a workshop at the local care home, which was very well received. Teaching chair-based exercises in care homes for more than 10 years has always been an uplifting experience, and every time we run a session, it is unique. We always create a bespoke activity based on mapping the engagement level of the group.

This diverse group that we ran the workshop with all participated fabulously. The activities coordinator was very energetic and bubbly, and she encouraged them to join in the exercises. We also took them down memory lane with the variety of songs, the story-telling, and the dance movements. Their favourite moment was their favourite song, "We'll meet again.". The hour went by so quickly, and they all waved a happy goodbye, looking forward to the next session. It is always so humbling and amazing to run these workshops, and this week as we celebrate dementia work, I am so glad we were able to offer our services for free to a well-deserving care home with the help of the lottery funding.

We look forward to carrying on this amazing work and seeing the smiles on the lovely residents who live in care homes and value the social visits from people like us. This has indeed been a rewarding week for all of us.

Because every person's journey is unique and deserves to be uplifted, let's come together this May and create lasting change for the community
